Some G20 Leaders Tossed a Coin In Eternal City’s Trevi Fountain

INTERNATIONAL: Some of the G20 leaders have ensured they will return to Rome some day as they tossed a one Euro coin into the iconic Trevi Fountain on Sunday, a tradition for visitors to the ancient city that dates back hundreds of years.

The tradition says that if a coin is tossed into the fountain, it would be an assurance that one is going to return to the Eternal City. Many visitors make a wish as they throw the coin into the centuries-old landmark. The tradition also says coins should be thrown by the right hand over the left shoulder.

About $1.35 million worth of coins are thrown into the basin by tourists each year. All the money goes to a charity that helps the city’s needy.
